This coach is officially swimming in the ocean of sports performance once again. Now, I can’t say that I was completely dry. I kept up with an small elite group of high school athletes online, as well as some promising young athletes on the lacrosse fields here on the Gulf Coast of Florida. But given the scope of where I’ve been, and where I want to now take this thing, I would say that I was dipping my toes in the water compared to the recent plunge back into the industry.

My biggest challenges this round: keeping the messaging fresh and meeting athletes where they are at. As recent as today (well, yesterday given my slow burning wordpress self-education has taken me into the early a.m.) I posted a bit of a rant about the “we don’t have time” excuse I’ve been hearing as of late. I won’t go into the entire rant, but I am proud of myself for posting my true thoughts without apology or fear of optics. It’s the truth, and that is what athletes and parents need to hear now more than ever.

The game of college sports is rapidly evolving in the era of NIL, a topic I intend to explore and update on regularly here.

Fitness and performance tech is easier than ever to integrate into our lives – for better or worse. So I will talk more about potential advantages and what data matters most. Spoiler: it’s the data you actually use.

Finally, I am going to work on keeping things short and to the point. My mentors in the broadcasting world always told me to just punch it out. When I took their advice, I earned the nickname One Take Chase. And when I overthought things, second-guessed myself…well, I had a few choice nicknames of my own. As did the crew I imagine.

So there it is. Blog #1. Let’s see if old One Take can get it published on a brand new site before the sun comes up. Good morning.
